BTE Christmas Charity Donations
This Christmas, BTE have decided to give back by donating to various foodbanks throughout the area. Instead of our normal Christmas gifts, the money has gone towards donations. This is hopefully a decision you support.
Why foodbanks?
Given the current economic challenges facing many people in the UK, coupled with the soaring cost of everyday living, more people than ever before are turning to food banks.
Many of us would take for granted the ability to afford food, however, every day 1.5 million people in the UK go without food. Foodbanks don't just give out food, they also offer support and advice, as well as often also being warm banks. A simple box of food makes a big difference, especially to those who may be having to make the decision between affording food or paying their rent.
Gifts to the BTE team?
We ask that you don’t bring any gifts for the BTE team. However, if you feel the need to provide a gift, please consider donating to our charity campaign or equally your own chosen charity on our behalf.
Which foodbanks we're supporting:
Located just a few minutes from our head office at Markfield, the Coalville Foodbank has been open since 2013. The foodbank is a project founded by local churches and community groups, working together towards stopping hunger in our local area.
Manchester Feedo Needo’s mission is to help eradicate food poverty and provide care to those experiencing homelessness whilst having an overall positive impact on the local communities that it serves regardless of race, colour, gender or age, we are here to help everybody in need and end food poverty in the UK once and for all.
"We don’t think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry. That’s why we provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to us in crisis. We are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK."
The Newark Foodbank opened its doors in February 2013 at Barnbygate Methodist Church and was, at that time, part of a network of 270 Trussell Trust Foodbanks in the UK. There are now more than 400 Trussell Trust Foodbanks and Newark Foodbank has become a charity in its own right.
The Leeds South & East Foodbank started in October 2013, with one Distribution Center, which has now increased to 11 Distribution Centers within South and East Leeds. We work with a number of companies, schools, and organizations, who donate food, money, and also provide volunteers. Our Foodbank is a project founded by local churches and community groups, working together towards stopping hunger in our local area.
